SHCSL Division One - Saturday 8th Feb - Sheffield Medics vs WTFC
Match Report: Kerr-ageous Brad Gives Medics a Headache!
It was a striking master class from Wellers top scorer Brad Kerr as he put six of the best past Sheffield Medics as the league leaders romped to victory.
The game started very slowly and there was barely a sniff of a shot in the opening 20 minutes, but a defensive mix-up between Jono Davis and Joe Egan gave the home side the lead on 23 minutes.
It proved to be the proverbial kick up the backside to the Wellers who suddenly looked sharper and more determined and the shots started coming on the half hour when Joe Oliver fired over following a Will Harling corner.
Kerr got his first of the afternoon, and arguably his best of the half dozen, three minutes later when Harling provided the perfect ball for the striker to hit on the volley with the keeper unable to react.
Luke Norbury tried his luck on 36 minutes only for his effort to his the top of the net from above, but a minute later he did find the right side as he powered a shot into the net following a free-kick.
The second half became the Kerr show and shortly after the re-start a long ball forward by left back Jak Rennison saw the emphatic striker turn his defender and fire low into the net to shell-shock Sheffield Medics.
Kerr grabbed his hat-trick on 52 minutes as a ball from Jake Padgett down the opposite flank found Kerr unmarked and he slotted the ball home to make it 4-1.
On 66 minutes Oliver tried to get on the score sheet once more having found space in the area after coming in from the left, but his shot was carried over by the wind despite the keeper scrambling.
Kerr made no doubt the points were heading in Wombwell's way with his fourth on 74 minutes. It was another long ball which was latched onto and after a 20 yard sprint he made no mistake.
Substitute Saba Tedoradze was unlucky to score his first goal for the club on 77 minutes when his header from a corner was deflected up and onto the crossbar by the man on the line.
With three minutes to go there was still time for three more goals with a late penalty for Sheffield Medics reducing the deficit in added time after Brad Kerr had completed his second hat-trick of the afternoon.
Harling was the creator again for both goals with Kerr slotting in at the near post and finishing with a lobbed shot over the hapless keeper with a minute remaining.
